I’m not a Home Visitor, I am much more than that. You can’t be with somebody for five years, and not be their friend.
It is one of the best things I’ve ever done… life enhancing.
The FVW team is so passionate about the work that they do and so encouraging with volunteers. It is a community that celebrates the small wins because they recognise the significance of each win on the journey. Instantly, you are part of a community that you share something in common with, despite gender, age, or background.
I feel I’m contributing toward making life better for very vulnerable people in my community. I am learning a lot about another people and their culture.
The best thing about volunteering with Forth Valley Welcome is learning form skilled and experienced volunteers as it was my first time volunteering with this kind of organisation. It was also great being able to meet people from the local Syrian community and work with their children and young people.
I have really enjoyed the involvement with the Syrian families and will particularly miss the family I support - they are lovely people. I have formed a very close friendship with them and hope to keep in contact. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to help - it has been very fulfilling and humbling.
I love meeting and working with a group of people who share a desire to welcome and support refugee families. Knowing that you are ‘making a difference.’ Later we were told ‘you should have seen the children’s faces when the first saw their bedroom!’
